OMEP Australia is proud to announce the release of a groundbreaking new resource, ‘Pathways to Sustainability in Early Childhood: Teaching the SDGs in the Australian Context.’ This invaluable tool has been collaboratively developed by Dr. Diane Boyd and OMEP Australia to support early childhood educators in integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their teaching practices.
A Gift for Australian Educators
Dr. Diane Boyd initially developed this resource in partnership with NCFE in the United Kingdom. Recognizing the importance of adapting educational materials to fit local contexts, Diane graciously gifted this resource to OMEP Australia. Together, we have tailored the resource to specifically address the needs and opportunities within the Australian early childhood education landscape.
Empowering Educators and Children
The Australian version of this Early Childhood Education for Sustainability resource aims to equip educators with the knowledge and tools to engage with the SDGs. By doing so, educators can deepen their understanding of global responsibilities and learn how to incorporate the SDGs into their everyday practices. This approach not only enriches their professional growth but also fosters children’s understanding of becoming active global citizens. The resource is aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0, with loads of suggested resources.

Understanding the SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 global objectives established by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals address a broad spectrum of global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. The overarching aim is to create a more sustainable and equitable world by 2030.
Promoting the SDGs in Early Childhood Education
OMEP Australia is dedicated to promoting and advancing the SDGs through the distribution of this resource. ‘Pathways to Sustainability in Early Childhood’ provides practical guidance for educators to embed the SDGs in their teaching. By incorporating these global goals into early childhood education, we lay the foundation for children to understand and act upon issues that impact their world, nurturing their development as informed, compassionate, and proactive individuals.
