OMEP Australia is thrilled to announce our ‘Playing Around Australia,’ project that celebrates the joy and importance of play in the lives of children. We are inviting children from all corners of Australia to participate by sharing a photo and a caption that showcases their favourite thing to play, their favourite place to play, or their favourite toy.

How to Participate

Children can capture a moment that represents their playtime and add a brief caption explaining why it’s their favourite. Whether it’s a beloved toy, a special game, or a cherished play spot, we want to see it all! This project is open to everyone—parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and guardians—encouraging their little ones to take part in this joyful celebration.

The Power of Play

Play is more than just fun; it is a fundamental right of every child. It contributes significantly to their physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. Through play, children learn to express themselves, explore their environment, and build relationships. Recognising the crucial role of play, the United Nations has established the International Day of Play, and this year marks the first-ever celebration of this important day.

Showcasing Play in Australia

The photos and captions collected through the ‘Playing Around Australia’ project will be featured in a special exhibition curated by OMEP Australia. This exhibition aims to showcase the diverse and vibrant ways children across the country engage in play, highlighting its universal importance and the unique cultural contexts within which it occurs.

Join us in Celebrating Play

By participating in ‘Playing Around Australia,’ you are not only celebrating the joy of play but also advocating for the right of every child to play. This project is a beautiful way to connect communities and showcase the essence of childhood. We can’t wait to see the wonderful photos and stories that will come from this project.
