OMEP Australia recognizes the vital role early childhood education plays in shaping children’s perspectives, values, and attitudes. Early childhood educators have a unique opportunity to instill the values and knowledge necessary for contributing to global issues. In line with this, we are excited to launch a new survey aimed at understanding what early childhood educators know about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they incorporate them into their teaching practices.
Why This Survey Matters
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted in 2015 by all United Nations Member States, are a set of 17 global goals designed to address a wide range of global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. These goals aim to create a more sustainable and equitable world by 2030. However, the extent to which early childhood educators are aware of the SDGs and whether they integrate them into their teaching practices remains unknown. By identifying educators’ awareness and knowledge of the SDGs, we can better understand how these global goals are being introduced to young children and identify opportunities for improvement.
Your Participation is Key
Some of the OMEP Australia team are conducting this survey to gather insights from early childhood educators across Australia. We aim to understand the level of awareness among educators about the SDGs; how, if at all, the SDGs are embedded in early childhood education practices; and the resources and support educators need to effectively teach the SDGs. The insights gained from this survey will help us to identify gaps in awareness and knowledge of the SDGs among early childhood educators; develop and provide resources that support the introduction or continued use of the SDGs in early childhood settings and to enhance the capacity of educators to contribute to global issues through informed teaching practices.
How to Participate
We invite all early childhood educators to participate in this important survey. Your input is invaluable in helping us create a more informed and effective approach to early childhood education that aligns with the SDGs. To participate, please click here to access the survey. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, and your responses will be kept confidential.
By participating in this survey, you are contributing to a better understanding of how early childhood education can play a pivotal role in achieving the SDGs. Together, we can ensure that the next generation is equipped with the knowledge and values necessary to address global challenges and create a sustainable future for all. We thank you for your participation and commitment to early childhood education and sustainable development.
