Join the Movement to Reclaim Indigenous Worldviews in Early Childhood Education
We are excited to announce a Call for Papers for a special issue of The International Journal of Early Childhood. The focus of this special issue is on Amplifying Indigenous Voices in the Early Years. This unique and timely collection aims to explore the vital role of Indigenous perspectives in the education and care of young children. By elevating Indigenous voices and worldviews in early childhood settings, we can create meaningful and transformative spaces for today and future generations.
Why Amplifying Indigenous Voices Matters
Indigenous cultures have long been rich in values, knowledge, and teachings that are essential for shaping a holistic approach to early childhood education. Yet, these perspectives are often marginalised or overlooked in mainstream educational practices. This special issue is dedicated to ensuring Indigenous worldviews are not only recognised but integrated into the fabric of early childhood contexts. The focus is on reclaiming these invaluable teachings to guide the nurturing of young minds, shaping a future where Indigenous knowledge is honored, respected, and celebrated. Amplifying Indigenous voices allows us to build a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse educational system that honors the unique cultural heritage of Indigenous communities.
What We Are Looking For
We invite researchers, educators, and practitioners to submit papers that explore the integration of Indigenous perspectives in early childhood education. We encourage submissions that address:
- Practical strategies for incorporating Indigenous worldviews into early childhood education
- Case studies or examples of Indigenous pedagogy in action
- The role of Indigenous languages and traditions in young children’s learning
- The impact of an Indigenous-centered curriculum on children, families, and communities
- The decolonisation of early childhood spaces and the importance of cultural competence in educators
