This photo-rich book showcases pre-primary education in 20 countries, highlighting how governments, communities and educators are working to realise every child’s right to early childhood education.
Opening chapters from OMEP and international partners set out the human rights case for free, high-quality pre-primary education and explain current global efforts to secure a new Optional Protocol guaranteeing at least one free pre-primary year for every child.

Country chapters then provide 2–4-page portraits of pre-primary provision in each context, including policy settings, access, curriculum and pedagogy, daily routines, learning environments, and approaches to inclusion and equity. Each chapter is richly illustrated with photographs of children, educators and learning spaces, offering a vivid picture of pre-primary classrooms and communities around the world.
The book is designed for advocates, policymakers, researchers, and educators who want concrete examples of how pre-primary education is organised and experienced in different national contexts, and how these efforts contribute to realising the right to early childhood education for every child.
